VetSoft was launched in 1982 with the release of CARDIO, an ECG diagnostic program for the dog and cat designed and developed by Fred Stevens, DVM, MS. Excited at the possibilities for expert system diagnostic software in veterinary medicine, Dr. Stevens soon followed with HEMO, the CBC, Chemistry, and UA diagnostic system in 1985, and Rx+, the intelligent multi-species formulary and dispensing tool in 1989.

Dr. Stevens has recently created large specialized software projects for the Center for Equine Health, School of Veterinary Medicine, UC Davis, the California Department of Food and Agriculture and the Animal Blood Bank, Inc. among dozens of other unique and creative products.

Combining an interest in photography with the sport of air racing, Stevens has covered the National Championship Air Races at Reno as a photographer for a local newspaper for 7 years and has become the official veterinarian for the Warlock Air Racing Team. In 1994, he and colleague Tom Carlton released a multi-media CD-ROM about air racing.
